Surgically Targeted Radiation Therapy 2021

Course Description:
This course includes an overview on epidemiology and treatment options for brain tumors. The course will dive into the current standard of care for brain tumor patients, specifically on radiation therapy. Brachytherapy is a type of radiation therapy used to treat cancer, and the evolution of intracranial brachytherapy has led to surgically targeted radiation therapy. Patient selection for surgically targeted radiation therapy for brain metastases, gliomas, and meningiomas will be reviewed. Radiation physics aspects, including radiation safety and treatment planning/implant evaluation will be presented. Sample clinical cases will be reviewed for brain metastases, gliomas, and meningiomas. Ongoing clinical trials will be presented.

Learning Objectives:

Understand the evolution of brain brachytherapy, specifically how it led to advanced intracranial radiation treatment.
